After trying for a baby for just under two years, and being diagnosed with severe endometriosis, I wondered whether we would ever become parents. We had read that acupuncture can increase the success rates of IVF, so decided to try it alongside our first course. Our dreams came true when I became pregnant first time with our beautiful little girl. Jody's treatments were fantastic, I always felt so calm and relaxed after each session and we cant thank her enough for the part she played in our road to parenthood. CG
I started seeing Jody in January following 2 years of unexplained infertility and 2 miscarriages. I had acupuncture in conjunction with fertility treatment (clomid) and 4 months later found out I was pregnant. After the previous miscarriages I was very nervous - but saw Jody on a weekly basis during the first 3 months which really helped my state of mind. I then continued acupuncture throughout the pregnancy to help with any pregnancy niggles. Our healthy baby girl was born on her due date in December and we are thrilled. I had a very healthy pregnancy and a very good natural labour. I would just like to express my thanks to Jody for the three sessions of acupuncture treatment I received following an injury to my lower back. Prior to seeing Jody I suffered 4 weeks of back pain even with using muscle relaxing and pain relieving tablets. After a consultation with Jody, she was confident that acupuncture may be a treatment that would help my condition. She guessed I would need 3 sessions of acupuncture to relieve the pain, but surprisingly the pain was gone after the second session. I still had the third session just to reinforce the work that she had previously done. All three acupuncture sessions were painless and relaxing, and I would highly recommend this type treatment for back pain, and I am told for many other conditions. DJ
We have been seeing Jody since Dec 08 and have since been through one course of ICSI with positive results (still early days but fingers crossed!). Jody has been incredibly supportive throughout our treatment and entire journey and has gone out of her way to ensure that we are comfortable and have the best chance of our IVF treatment succeeding. Regardless of our outcome, both my husband and I had said that we would have continued to see her whether the result was positive or negative! Sally has asked me to pass on her thanks for sorting out her recent back problem. She was very nervous about trying acupuncture but was in such pain I managed to convince her to give it a try. She felt relaxed in your presence and was delighted with the results. It was also very handy that you were able to visit our house - getting in and out of a car would have been impossible. In China, where acupuncture has been used for centuries, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is the primary source of medicine for both men and women to support reproductive health. It is also the treatment of choice for many gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, and PCOS.
In the UK acupuncture is becoming more widely recognized for it's effectiveness by western medicine and this is particularly so in the area of fertility. Increasingly fertility clinics are suggesting that their patients have acupuncture as an adjunct to assisted reproductive therapies. Though there is a growing body of scientific research into its uses, there is, however, little data that conforms to the usual Western medical standards of large scale, double-blind, randomised controlled trials on the human population and, as a result, its efficacy must still be considered to be largely unproven. All of the references made within this website to research into acupuncture need, therefore, to be seen in that context.
Research does suggest that acupuncture may be good for relieving the effects of stress, for increasing blood flow to the uterus and ovaries and balancing female hormones. Acupuncture may also be helpful for male fertility too. There have been a number of research studies which have shown that acupuncture has a positive effect on sperm, although there is some conflict between studies as to the degree of improvement. Treatment will always include acupuncture but lifestyle advice will also be given as an important adjunct to treatment. This may include advice regarding diet, exercise and/or relaxation.
