Your Acupuncture Treatment

The initial session lasts one hour and follow-ups are 45 minutes.  During the first session I will ask you questions about your health history, current state of health and body function and will look at your tongue and pulse.  Using all this information I am able to select a treatment which is carefully tailored to your individual needs.

Treatment will include acupuncture - the insertion of very fine acupuncture needles in specific points on the body.  Many people ask does it hurt?  The answer is generally no.  The majority of people do not feel the needles going in, but when the needle connects with your energy you may feel a tingling, dull or numb feeling.  This is a good sign and is not usually an unpleasant feeling.  It is very common to experience a sense of deep relaxation during and after treatment.  Some people find they are very tired after, others feel enlivened and energetic – it depends on your particular energetic make-up on the day.  Most people find acupuncture a very pleasant relaxing experience.

Other methods may include cupping, the use of heat with moxa and or light massage depending on your individual diagnosis.  Jody often includes a light foot massage as part of your treatment.

The number of sessions you require depends a number of variable factors: how long you have had the condition, your age, your individual energetic responsiveness.  But generally speaking you need to allow five or six sessions to find out if acupuncture will be helpful to you.

It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing and not to eat a big meal immediately before.

I do offer home visits if you are unable to leave the house.  Obviously there is an extra charge for this to cover journey time and petrol.
