Your Treatment

Your first acupuncture session lasts one hour and follow-up treatments are 45 minutes.  During the first session you will be asked questions about your health history, current state of health, body function and lifestyle.  Jody will also ask to look at your tongue and feel your pulse at both wrists.  From this information an energetic diagnosis is formed and then treatment is carefully tailored to your individual needs.

Treatment will always include acupuncture - the insertion of very fine acupuncture needles in specific points on the body.  Many people ask does it hurt?  The answer is generally no.  The majority of people do not feel the needles going in, but when the needle connects with your energy you may feel a tingling, dull or numb feeling.  It is very common to experience a sense of deep relaxation during and after treatment.  Some people find they are very tired after, others feel enlivened and energetic – it depends on your particular energetic make-up on the day.  Most people find acupuncture a pleasant relaxing experience.

Other methods of treatment may include cupping, the use of heat with moxa and or light massage.  Jody often includes a light foot massage as part of your treatment.

The number of sessions you require depends on a number of variable factors: how long you have had the condition, your age, your individual energetic responsiveness.  But generally speaking you need to allow four to six sessions to find out if acupuncture will be helpful for you.

It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing and not to eat a big meal immediately before
